Student Group Registration

Universities, department, programs and centers wishing to support students who are pursuing or exploring careers in music studies are strongly encouraged to consider sponsoring or subsidizing a student group registration. Student group registrations provide a small discount off the student member registration rate, regardless of the membership status of the student. They are a great way to support both graduate and undergraduate students. Student groups provide the kind of valuable cohort support that makes attending a large disciplinary conference far less daunting, while also providing students with unprecedented exposure to a wide array of perspectives and subfields in music studies.

In order to register a student group, you must have a group of 15 or more students. These students can be at a single university or at multiple colleges / universities, so organizers are encouraged to work with colleagues at other schools to organize a student group. You may include faculty or administrators in your group registration, but please note that they will be required to register at our regular member / nonmember registration rates.

The student group registration rate provides a $5 discount on the student member registration rate, regardless of students’ membership status. The student member early-bird rate (1 June – 22 September) is $95. The student member regular rate (23 September – 31 October) is $125. The deadline for registering a student group is 31 October 2023.

When registering your group, please be prepared to specify each individual’s:

  • First and last name
  • Email address
  • Institutional affiliation

If you are registering faculty or administrators to accompany the student group, please be prepared to specify their membership status. (A current membership in either the American Musicological Society (AMS) or the Society for Music Theory (SMT) makes one eligible for the member rate.) Also note that the individual submitting the group registration form will be required to declare that all registrants are aware of and have agreed to abide by the meeting’s Harassment Policy and the Photo Release policy.

If you have any questions, please contact the event organizers at events@amsmusicology.org.
